Regional Road System

The Regional Road System lies on the heavily traveled Interstate 35 NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) trade corridor, conveniently located to both Dallas and Fort Worth. Downtown Dallas and downtown Fort Worth are within 45 minutes driving distance of Hickory Creek, allowing access to major sporting events, concerts and other entertainment venues.

The I-35E corridor through Hickory Creek has an Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) of over 125,000 vehicles. With many prime retail locations fronting the I-35E corridor, this traffic creates a unique opportunity for businesses located along the Interstate.

Many major roads through and around Hickory Creek are scheduled for expansion. These projects will produce a favorable business climate by significantly increasing the daily traffic count for retailers and allowing better access to all businesses.

I-35E Interim Improvements are currently in progress by TxDot to upgrade both NB and SB ramps. Anticipated completion date is July 2007.

I-35E Major Improvements are scheduled to widen the current 6 lanes to 10 total lanes – 8 main lanes and 2 managed lanes. 3-lane frontage roads are planned on each side of the Interstate. SH121 toll road funding is expected to fund this project. The Environmental Assessment received all legal comments from Austin and was resubmitted for approval in July 2007. The tentative project let date is May 2012.  Click here to view the actual schematics of each section of the project: Section 1Section 2, Proposed Elevations.

FM 2181 is funded and on schedule for widening from 2 to 6 lanes west from I-35E through Hickory Creek, Corinth and Denton. Right-of-way and utility relocation is scheduled to begin October 2007. The anticipated project let date is October 2009, with construction completion in October 2011.

FM 2499 will serve as a convenient, rapid connection to DFW Airport and the central DFW Metroplex. The extension will be built across Lake Lewisville from FM 407 north to FM 2181. The anticipated construction date is October 2007 with a completion date of October 2010. FM 2499 will be extended north to intersect with I-35E in Corinth, with construction scheduled to finish in September 2014.

Lake Lewisville Corridor Project will construct a 4-lane divided unban toll road, with projected 6 lanes, from I-35E east on Swisher Road across a newly constructed bridge over Lake Lewisville. The project is subdivided into eight sections. When Section 1 (Swisher Road is scheduled for completion in mid-July 2007) and Section 2 (Lake Lewisville Toll Bridge is scheduled for completion in April 2008) are finished, a physical connection will exist that connects the Lake Cites area to the Dallas North Tollway, well before Sections 3–8 are finished.  Click here to view the project maps and project website.
